Music in the Catholic Parishes of Borehamwood plays a key role in our praise and worship of Almighty God: the Father, Son, and Holy Spirit. When we give ourselves in prayer to God, the gift we give is magnified and returned to us many times over. When we sing together, we are in rhythm together, we breathe together and we blend with one another. Our individual voices combine and our sense of community is greatly enhanced.

The hymns and songs that we sing during the liturgy are chosen to emphasise the teachings and concepts of the Scriptures proclaimed at the Eucharist. They help us to absorb God’s Word more fully, especially when we recall their message throughout the day and week after Mass. Music stirs our hearts in a way that words alone cannot.

Our Music Ministry is composed of dedicated singers and musicians who serve us by leading and supporting our active participation in worship. If you want to join, please email borehamwoodmusic@rcdow.org.uk and state which choir you would like to join.

Saturday 6pm Choir (at SS John Fisher & Thomas More)

The organ is played and hymns tend to be of traditional nature. Arrive half an hour before Mass starts and the organist will explain which hymns are going to be sung. There is seating around the organ area where choir members are positioned.

Sunday 10am choir and 12 noon choir (at St. Teresa’s)

These choirs meet half an hour before Mass starts and they are based in the Choir Loft. They also meet during the week to rehearse. Singers and instrumentalists of all ages are welcome. Depending on themes from the Scriptures, a mixture of traditional and more modern hymns are used. Various instruments are played including the keyboard and guitar. The Choir Leader trains individual singers to cantor the Responsorial Psalm and perhaps sing in other solo/duet opportunities. There can be additional rehearsals during the weeks leading up to special occasions e.g. Christmas and Easter. On special occasions, the Allen Organ (near the Altar) may be played.
